THE CHALLENGE
Beats were introducing a new iteration of an existing, well-known product. The key differentiator was a semi-transparent finish that exposed internal components, but the brief required restraint. The film needed to allude to transparency and internal detail without directly showing the earbuds themselves.
The challenge was to create intrigue and hype for a familiar product, signalling change and innovation while withholding full visual disclosure. The work also needed to feel premium, tactile, and aligned with Beats’ brand language.




THE APPROACH
We explored multiple conceptual routes around transparency and revelation, including fluid forms, layered scans, and abstract visual metaphors. These ideas were developed into a concept board that focused on suggestion rather than explanation.
The selected direction centred on a simplified form inspired by the Studio Buds case. A lozenge-like object rotated through space, interacting with light through reflection and refraction rather than literal transparency. As the form completed each full rotation, the surrounding environment shifted.
Four distinct environments were developed, ranging from urban, concrete textures to more organic, natural settings. These transitions subtly suggested versatility and usage contexts without showing the product itself.
Motion and lighting were used carefully to create a sense of depth, materiality, and internal presence, allowing the teaser to communicate “something new” without explicit reveal.




THE OUTCOME
The final teaser film delivered a restrained yet highly engaging launch moment, generating strong organic performance across social platforms. By focusing on suggestion rather than disclosure, the film built anticipation while remaining consistent with Beats’ premium positioning.
The campaign achieved significantly higher engagement than previous content, scaling organic reach well beyond typical benchmarks and driving a marked increase in interaction at launch.
