Inside the Mechanics of Precision
Visualising mechanical movement and craftsmanship
The Challenge
Christopher Ward wanted to reveal the precision and engineering of their latest watch movement in a way traditional film and still imagery could not achieve.
Key mechanical features, including the twin-barrel springs, escapement, and balance wheel, are entirely within the case and are difficult to articulate clearly without disassembly. The challenge was to make these internal systems understandable while maintaining the brand's refinement.
The Approach
We used motion-led CGI to move inside the watch, shifting focus from surface detail to mechanical structure and sequence.
The film opens on the assembled timepiece before transitioning inward, animating components into place in order. Motion was used deliberately to explain relationship, timing, and function rather than spectacle. Throughout, the visual language balanced technical accuracy with a restrained aesthetic aligned to Christopher Ward’s identity.
Revealing What Matters
By dynamically revealing 138 individual components as they assemble in motion, the film provides a clear understanding of how the movement operates and why its construction matters.
CGI enabled complex engineering to be shown without simplification, translating precision mechanics into a visual narrative understandable without specialist knowledge.
The Outcome
The resulting assets supported the product launch across multiple touchpoints.
Alongside the hero film, we delivered looping motion sequences, still renders, and modular visuals for digital, retail, and social channels. The CGI became a reliable reference for communicating the movement’s design, precision, and craftsmanship at launch.
